  1. Re: Navy saying thanks — that’s brutal! US Navy submarines are also the ones that can make whales die from what appears to be decompression sickness (gass bubbles in the tissues) because they use active sonar. The British Navy on the other hand uses passive sonar only.

  2. Funny story about whales and things getting in the way: Many many years ago my pal Kelly Rigg was working against a plan to drill for oil off Georges’ Banks. One of her prime arguments was that these are, of course, the rich feeding grounds of our friends the Humpbacks that hang out off the US and Canadian east Coast in the summer. She succeeded, and got a public thanks from the US Navy, which had been concerned that oil rigs would obstruct the sea-lanes their nuclear attack submarines ran along. How do you spell bittersweet victory?

Glad you like the new look. Still working at it!

  3. Woh! Everything changed. How long was I gone? LOVE THE NEW LOOK

Surely the high speed craft collided with the whale though! Are they trying to blame the whale for hurting people?

How DARE a whale get in the way!
